I had read all of the Full Circle Series but somehow missed this sixth one, Firestorm.Reyne is a smoke jumper, a firefighter who parachutes into a remote area to combat fires. How firefighters combat fires was probably the key element of this story.Of course, it's not just about Reyne and fires, there's also her past . . . that terrible blaze that left an unspeakable tragedy that Reyne can't let go of.Then Logan, wonderful and fearless also a smoke jumper who just happens to come into Reyene's line of vision. And! pop! Instant attraction! But of course, Reyne and Logan deny the attraction.Reyne is so caught up in her own past and Logan loves his job and thinks that Reyne needs to quit her desk job and face the job she loves.Then there's that fateful flicker and it takes all of the firefighters to overcome that one blaze.This is an interesting book with a lot of action and a lot of romance. If you enjoy the combination mixed with God's love then you'll probably enjoy this sweet, fast paced read! Great for a summer day of just laying by the pool or resting on the patio.*This book was provided for review by Waterbrook/Multnomah Publishing*2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Firestorm needed more heatBy Katherine PantinasIn the sixth book in this series, smoke jumper Reyne Oldre deals with her inner demons from a tragedy that happened on her watch. Now out of the front line work and putting all of her effort into fire science and helping those who fought the dragon, Reyne is unexpectedly, and irritatingly, paired with smoke jumper Logan McCabe. Logan's project had been given her research money, and the powers that be expect her to work with him on top of it. Sparks fly, first from anger, then from romance, as Reyne must confront her past or run the risk of losing her future.I will admit, I have not read the other books in this series. For the most part, I think the author did a great job in not making that a necessity. Any back story that was needed was provided when necessary. The best part of this book was the story of the fires. Through the majority of the middle of the book, we follow Reyne and Logan as, separately, through the summer fire season and all that type of stress encompasses.As this is a contemporary Christian romance, the love story is sweet. The turmoil that rises between the two is often prayed about as they try to maneuver their way through their relationship. The other people in the book were all united by the same Christian belief.While all of this was the good parts of the book, I have to be honest. I was really left wanting. Although, yes, this is a Christian romance, and so no sex, I still expected some sort of passion or romance. I didn't buy the relationship with Reyne and Logan. For a gal who was supposed to be walled off from other men, she caved to Logan very quickly with very little conflict. And Logan making a bet to marry her before the end of fall after only meeting her once felt false and frat-boyish. Through the entire book, I never bought their relationship.This book missed out a lot on extending conflict and creating tension. The emotions displayed were two-dimensional. The most emotional part of the book had to do with Reyne's friend Beth. That part was done beautifully. However, the romance, which should have been the point of the book, seemed to take a backseat to Reyne's personal demons, the issue with Beth, and the fires.I have always said I prefer character-driven books, which may be my problem with this book. I expect the plot of a romance to be almost formulaic, and for the best part to be the characters. This book is very plot-driven, and the plot involves firefighting, not romance.
