However it seems like the paperback edition also has oldish pictures according to some reviews. The illustrations in Kindle edition are useful anyway, but they are not too pleasing to look at and this is unfortunate, because the content of the book is excellent in a way that it is all practical. The book has a separate chapters, for example, about scoliosis; sciatica; and relaxation. Home Base Poses chapter has an overview of a number of safe yoga poses, such as, Yoga sit-ups and Kneeling lunge (Low lunge). The book is good in terms of content, the poses are safe, the props required are blankets and an ordinary chair, the instructions are easy to follow, but the pictures! Not only they are black and white but the quality is like antique photographs. Otherwise this is a five-star book, even thought it dates back to 1992, the book is a good foundation for the home base safe yoga practice for anyone concerned about their spinal health.8 of 8 people found the following review helpful.Best Yoga Book I Have ReadBy Nathan DelsonThis is my favorite yoga book because I actually read it and do the exercises. Years ago I took a class on Iyengar yoga for backs, and it saved my back. However, after a good number of years I stopped yoga practice and after carrying my kids on my shoulders I started to have neck and back pains again. A few instructors at the gym did not help that much, so I looked for a book. This book provides clear explanations. It is not preachy, but rather realizes that lapses and setbacks occur in yoga practice, and one needs to just slowly start going again. The descriptions of the exercises are very clear. I feel like one of the better yoga instructors is right there in the room. The bottom line is that with other yoga books that I have purchased, I never could finish reading and never would quite follow the exercises. This book covers the spine background in-depth, but in an interesting and easy to read fashion. The exercise regimes slowly build up without causing problems due to over aggressiveness. This book has really helped both my back and neck. It has tons of guidance on doing full body self assessments. She has a very clear writing style and very solid guidance. The book gives a very good understanding of what happens when you are too tight or too loose. Based on your findings, she then lays out simple yoga routines and exercises to bring your body back in balance. She also helps track your progress with forms and charts. very helpful for the kind of person that is determined to avoid surgery and or chronic pain.Only drawback is that it is fairly dated. I wish that she would update it with new photos and post the forms online.
