Darkfever was an average book with a murder/mystery appeal. The story doesn't end with this book and you will have to buy the next book to find out what happens next. The book flips from first person "in the moment" to first person "telling a story" which took away from mystery, character, was inconsistent. Will I buy the next book eh, probably not but I will look into other Karen Marie Moning books that appeal to me more.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.A dark and powerful start to the seriesBy DAIncredible world building! The characters and settings were beautifully written. While I did feel at times the story stretched, I did appreciate the fact that Darkfever was setting the scene for the series, which I absolutely intend to read in full.MacKayla is a reluctant heroine and her development is slow, but that is to be expected. Not only does she have to come to terms with her sister’s death, which occurred in a completely different country from her own, but she also has to deal with the fact that she has powers that allow her to see a world that very few knew existed.Jericho Barrons is complex and intoxicating, mentoring MacKayla one minute, then using her the next. I appreciate the air of mystery surrounding his character, and admit it is the main reason I will be reading on. A dark and powerful start to a series I look forward to completing.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.The beginning of a journeyBy CustomerFor me, this book is really like a very long introduction. The groundwork is painstakingly laid out and each character is fully developed so you get to know each and every single one of them and what their role is in the story. It is not meant to be a stand alone work, but I don't believe this is a bad thing. I think it is a very good thing. It's not meant to just make more money, it's meant to fully immerse yourself into this world and make yourself a part of it. You feel like you are there and you are running along side Mac. You are learning about her world with her as if you might be someone just like her. By the end of it, you are ready for the next part of your life (hers) but you wouldn't have or couldn't have been any earlier. Ready to move on now!See all 1219 customer reviews...
