I have learn Japanese for two years on and off and dabbled a little in Korean. For the New Year i decided to learn Mandarin and was looking for a good and inexpensive series. Luckily, i stumbled upon this series and had to give it a try. What I like most about these series is the audio. I think that help a lot with pronunciation. I know learning a tonal like Mandarin is difficult. This series help me understand how to pronounce the tones. I'm still on book 1 I know have a long way to go. GrillBook 3 takes the knowledge gained in Books 1 and 2 and really applies it to everyday situations. Much more than just a travel guide, Ms. Zhang's books take the time to explain the language by giving literal translations. Word order isn't the same as you would expect in the English translation, and I found the differences to be helpful in reinforcing the grammar. The numerous examples also serve to reinforce the language. For example, most Chinese language learning books have one or two greetings. In this Book 3, there are 16 different examples!
